Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes do I need for Android app icons?
Android requires icons at multiple density levels: LDPI (36x36), MDPI (48x48), HDPI (72x72), XHDPI (96x96), XXHDPI (144x144), XXXHDPI (192x192), and 512x512 for the Play Store listing.
What sizes do I need for iOS app icons?
iOS requires several sizes: 120x120 and 180x180 for iPhone, 152x152 and 167x167 for iPad, plus 1024x1024 for the App Store. Additional sizes are needed for Settings (58x58, 87x87) and Spotlight (80x80, 120x120).
What favicon sizes should I include on my website?
At minimum, include 16x16, 32x32, and 180x180 (Apple touch icon). For best coverage, also add 48x48, 192x192 (Android Chrome), and 512x512 for PWA manifest.
What are PWA manifest icons?
Progressive Web Apps require icons in their manifest.json file. The recommended sizes are 72, 96, 128, 144, 152, 192, 384, and 512 pixels square. These are used when users install your web app on their device.
Should I use PNG or JPEG for app icons?
Use PNG for app icons, favicons, and any image that needs transparency. PNG preserves sharp edges and text perfectly. Use JPEG only for social media images where transparency isn't needed and smaller file size is preferred.
What's the difference between Cover and Contain fit modes?
Cover fills the entire target area, cropping edges if the aspect ratio doesn't match — best for icons and square thumbnails. Contain fits the entire image within the target area with letterboxing — best when you need to preserve the full image.
What image size should I upload?
Upload the highest resolution version available. For app icons, a 1024x1024 square image works best as all smaller sizes will be generated from it. For social media, use at least 1200px on the longest side.
